Phansad – Alibaug

Phasand is located in the Murud and Roha Taluka of Raigad district in the Konkan region, with a coverage area of 52-sq-km. The Phasand wildlife sanctuary, which encompasses the Coastal Woodland Ecosystem of the Western Ghats, offers a highly peaceful atmosphere all its visitors. Situated within the state of, Phansad is located 140 km from Mumbai.

The sanctuary once served as the private hunting ground for Siddi Nawab Murud of the Janjira state. The Nawab constructed roads and water bodies within the forest. The ruins of the Siddi Nawab’s bungalow at Kesauli offer a splendid view of the Kashid beach. A temple of the Dhawir Vardhini who is revered by the Aajri tribals is located inside the reserve.

Lavasa

Lavasa claims to be free India’s first hill city and is located in the striking landscape of the Sahayadri Mountains, set amidst 7 hills and 60 kilometers of lakefront. Just a three hour drive from Mumbai and an hour’s drive from Pune, the city is proposed to be one fourth the size of Mumbai.

Lavasa claims that its Master Plan is said to based on the ethics of new urbanism that fetches collectively, all the gears vital to daily life in a more organized manner, accordingly creating spaces within walking distance from each other. It claims many firsts to its credit – technology leadership, e-governance; the first Indian city developed using Geographical Information System (GIS), use of bio-mimicry as a science in town planning and use of innovative techniques like hydro seeding in environment management. Lavasa claims that its infrastructure will of higher standards than that of other Indian cities, and would offer a cosmopolitan culture and a unique combination of modernity and tranquility.

Situated in a pictorial environment the Vaitarna Dam offers the stunning scenery of the undulating stony peaks of the Western Ghats. Constructed in the early 50’s, this dam site commenced an era of concrete dams in India. A lovely lagoon with a vast extend of black waters and flanked by deep woods makes this dam site a delight for the tourists. Besides its panoramic beauty it is biggest supplier of water for Mumbai and surrounding cities. Considering the increasing demand, a new dam was constructed on the Vaitarna River, which was commissioned in 2011. This is the second highest dam in the state.
